INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
How we choose to face the challenges life throws at us impacts the way in which we think, feel and cope with subsequent trials and tribulations. The confidence to implement change is difficult to build but imperative to gaining strength through adversity.
There are many different facets to therapy, including: identifying the motivating factor for seeking therapy, uncovering how an individual developed their sense of self/identity, discussing mood-related symptoms that are often distressing and can lead to poor functioning, and providing coping skills to improve quality of life. The therapeutic relationship is built to help you gain a better understanding of your life, make progress towards your objectives, decrease distressing symptoms and strengthen your overall sense of self.
Dr. Zafar offers accessible treatment for individuals who are seeking support. She is committed to embracing diversity of identity, experience and thought in therapy. Dr. Zafar is actively engaged in sessions and encourages patients to be active participants as well.
Short Term Therapy
Sessions can be scheduled on a week-to-week basis, or as needed over a period of time. Typically, short-term therapy is defined as less than 12 weeks with a focus on coping skills and solutions. Treatment modalities may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). After completing sessions, you are encouraged to assess your progress in collaboration with Dr. Zafar so you may decide if more sessions are needed and she remains available for consultations in the future on an as-needed basis.
Long-Term Therapy
Sessions are typically scheduled weekly, to begin and can be modified over the course of time. Treatment modalities may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). Dr. Zafar remains flexible in her approach and works to ensure that an individuals’ context is taken into consideration throughout the treatment process.

COUPLES THERAPY
All relationships are unique and need to be nurtured in a way that is mindful of what each individual brings to the relationship. Learning how to navigate one another's nuances is not necessarily intuitive and often requires an objective outside perspective when couples feel stagnant.
Couples therapy can be helpful in identifying core conflicts and providing effective communication strategies that improve intimacy, engender mutual respect, and promote growth in the relationship.
